Planting a Greener Future in Detroit
On April 17, Life Time Team Members in Michigan partnered with The Greening of Detroit to plant 100 trees in the Riopelle Street Block Club Community. This effort helped expand Detroit’s urban canopy—providing cleaner air, improved stormwater management, and a more vibrant, livable neighborhood for generations to come.
For many Team Members, this was their first time planting a tree—but the sense of pride, camaraderie, and impact was undeniable.
“There was so much pride in doing good and contributing together. It was a lot of great camaraderie amongst the three clubs present and made us feel like one united front to supporting our community.”
In addition to the volunteer effort, a $2,500 grant from the Life Time Foundation was presented to The Greening of Detroit. The funds will help support the organizations “Green Thumb Challenge,” a community volunteer tree planting program that aims to plant 3,500 new trees throughout the city.
“Your hard work will make a lasting difference… We truly couldn’t have done it without you.”
The Greening of Detroit had a very thorough and organized process for the tree planting, helping the team feel equipped and confident in planting an entire tree from start to finish
“I heard several comments from the team members about how they want to come back periodically to check on their tree. The Greening encouraged us to name our tree to make that lasting connection even deeper.”
A little sweat, a lot of heart, and roots that will grow for years to come.
