Homemade Barbecue Sauce
A summer staple in your refrigerator may be a bottle of barbecue sauce, but have you ever read the ingredient label? You may be surprised to find some Ingredients of Concern lurking in that long list. This Homemade Barbecue Sauce will do the trick.
Ingredients
1/2 onion, finely diced
3 cloves minced garlic
1 Tbsp olive oil
6-oz can tomato paste (be sure to check the label for a non-BPA lining and recognizable ingredients)
2 Tbsp liquid aminos
5 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
4 Tbsp raw honey
3/4 cup water
1 tsp cumin
1 Tbsp chili powder
1/2 tsp oregano
1//4 tsp cayenne pepper
Directions
Saute onion, garlic and olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat until translucent
Reduce heat to low and whisk in remaining ingredients
Allow mixture to simmer for 5 minutes
Remove from heat and enjoy
Notes
Eliminate any small pieces of onion by blending the cooked sauce in a food processor for a smooth version of this homemade barbecue sauce.
